DAWN (she/her)

Instagram

Dawn is a queer visual artist, dancer, and self-taught photographer. Vulnerability lies at the core of every artistic medium she expresses herself through. She’s inspired by the human experience and isn’t afraid to share the darker parts of herself in her art with the hope that it helps someone feel a little less alone. Having started dancing at what is considered “late”, one of her goals is to inspire people to pursue whatever it is they’ve always dreamed of, no matter their age. When she’s not working or making art, she likes to take time away from the societal pressure of being productive and enjoy the little things in life.

What is the most important detail in your practice?

The most important detail for me is being 110% authentically myself and being unapologetic about it. I’ve spent most of my life being a watered-down version of myself. I was what others wanted me to be. I never fully knew or understood myself until I came to terms with my sexuality a few years ago. This realization was life-changing for me because I finally allowed myself to just be, and I learned that I love this version of myself the most. I’m still learning and unlearning certain parts of myself, but I finally feel free and I’ll never sacrifice my authenticity for anything or anyone ever again. It is only as my authentic self that I can inspire others to live as their true selves, and it's something that I plan on doing for the rest of my life.
