Olivia is a second-gen Chinese-Canadian art director, graphic and motion designer based in Montreal. She’s been working at Baillat Studio since 2017 and has had the opportunity to work with numerous brands and clients such as Cirque du Soleil, Yatai Montréal, Mapp Montréal, L’Éloi, and Montreal Jazz Festival. After years of hard work, she is currently on a personal sabbatical to travel and find new experiences that will enrich other parts of her life. Empowerment and representation are two of the core values that inspired her to join a group of friends in creating an NPO and online platform, Sticky Rice Magazine, where she has contributed as a creative director since 2020. Sticky Rice Magazine aims to promote interculturalism by bringing the experience of Asian-Canadians to the forefront. Virgo in her sun and moon, Olivia consistently keeps her desktop clean. She is known for having a black hole of infinite appetite, not being afraid of obstacles, and always saying yes to poutine.

What detail of your practice do you always try to put forward?

I always try putting forward trust building and having good communication when it comes to any professional or personal relationships. Trust is something that is built, but I believe that people should trust themselves more. Trust in the process, in your ideas, in voicing your opinions, in your intuition, and in your experiences. Maybe it’s because I have so much Virgo in me, but I love clarity. This is why I enjoy and often over-communicate rather than under-communicate. I want the people in my circle to know that they can always talk to me about what’s good, what’s wrong, what’s working, and what’s not. We can only try to solve what we know. To me, having trust and communication is having a solid foundation.
