KIMBERLEY-ANN (she/her)
Based in Montreal, Kimberley Ann is a director, producer and screenwriter of haïtien descent. She obtained her diploma from the University of Pennsylvania in cinema/television and business. Throughout the years, she had the chance to work on a variety of interesting projects, from fiction to documentary, including fiction and animation. In 2021, she directed, wrote and produced her movie Nourrir les Rêves, which premiered at the International Film Festival HotDocs and is now available on Crave. She later directed, that same year, two versions of her documentary The Relay : Revisiting History (Le Relais : Derrière la Médaille, version française) in collaboration with CBC and Radio-Canada. She is currently working with Bell Media, Crave, Radio-Canada and CBC on multiple projects. The force and motivation behind her work is to put to light voices and stories of Black, marginalized and under-represented communities in front of and behind the camera.
Which Detail is most important to you in your practice?
Vulnerability. The body is something very fragile and sensitive. For a long time, I saw mine as a flaw. I would hide it behind this fear of being judged and rejected by others. My standards for beauty were also misplaced. Throughout the years, I understood that the vulnerability I had regarding my body was not a weakness, but a strength, the cradle of my confidence, my intimacy, my courage to stand up. High and loud, bodies – no matter their shape, colour, height – are all beautiful : beauty shouldn’t have “norms”. At the end of the day, through my art, I want to be an example in front and behind the camera that I would have wanted to see when I was younger.
